bivia ("we", "us") is a free daily quiz game at playbivia.com. We keep data to a minimum. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- A random player ID. The first time you play, your browser creates a random code and stores it on your device. It isn't linked to your name or email. We use it to remember your progress.
- Your game activity: your answers, how long each answer took, your daily scores, green stamps, streaks and the date you played. This is how scores, streaks and leaderboards work.
- Your leaderboard name, if you choose one. Otherwise you get an automatic name like "Teal Otter".
- Your country, worked out from your internet connection by our hosting provider, so a flag can appear next to your name. You can hide it in Settings, and you'll appear as 🌍 Earth instead.
- Your Google account ID, only if you choose to sign in with Google. We store Google's ID number for your account so your progress can follow you to other devices. We don't store your email address, name or profile photo.
- Purchase records, only if you buy something (for example a name change or a voluntary support payment). Payments are handled by our reseller Lemon Squeezy. We receive an order number, the amount and your player ID so we can deliver what you bought. We never see or store your card details.
What we don't do
- We don't show ads and don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- We don't store your IP address, and we don't sell or share your data with advertisers.
- We don't ask for your name, email address or phone number to play.
Storage on your device
The game uses your browser's local storage to keep your player ID and settings (dark mode, sound, and similar). These are needed for the game to work. Clearing your browser data removes them; use "Move to another device" or sign in with Google first if you want to keep your progress.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare hosts the website and database. Like any web host, it processes your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Lemon Squeezy, only if you make a purchase. It acts as the seller and handles payment, tax and receipts under its own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
We keep game data while the game is running, so your stamps and streaks are there when you come back. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for accounting and legal reasons.
Your choices and rights
You can change your name and hide your country at any time in Settings. You can ask us to show you, correct or delete your data by emailing support@playbivia.com. Because we don't know who you are, please include your leaderboard name or a "Move to another device" code so we can find your player.
Children
bivia is a general-audience game and isn't aimed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
